I’m from Germany and there’s currently a discussion on insects as food additives since the EU just greenlit a bunch of new insects for that very purpose.
So how about Japan? Are there insects used as food additives (like coloring etc.)
And it there are how do you figure out which products contain them?

Not sure, but I remember learning Starbucks use insects for pink coloring.
I’ve never heard of it in Japan and almost all Japanese would think it’s disgusting.
China, Thailand and Cambodia eat insects, but they eat them whole. You don’t accidently eat them.
