From what I understand, JET (CLAIR) provides a few grants for ALTs with no teaching experience or prior certifications to partially cover the cost of a TEFL or TESOL online certificate program. I am currently on my first year of the JET Program and would like to take advantage of this.
Have you applied for this grant and what TEFL/TESOL course did you choose? How long did it take to complete? Did you feel it was easy to get while desk warming?

Yes I did one with the grant. I chose a 120 hour course offered by ittt as they had a jet discount. With thru discount and the grant it ended up almost free for me. It was pretty simple and didn’t take long to do, I did it over maybe a month or a month and a half
I chose the TEFL Academy, it was all done online and at my own pace.
Basically with the grant you’ll have less than a year to complete it all. It was well worth it, as you can definitely finish it all during desk warming times.
It’s free money with a little boost to your resume, so i recommend it.
I’d like to know a bit more about this too. I’m also in my first year but I’m leaving in August so I’m not sure if it is a possibility for me or not. Is it only for people staying more than one year?
