Travelling to Japan next week and having trouble with the 厚生労働省 questionnaire

Hello everyone. I’m an exchange student, coming to Japan for the first time next week. My name is, uh, rather large and doesn’t fit the maximum character size in the Ministry of Labor’s online questionnaire, and I wonder what I should do in this situation. I’ll try asking my country’s embassy, but I wondered if any of you guys had something similar happen to you.

On a related note, I’m afraid my full name being this big (37 characters) will probably be a problem again in the future. Is there any way to work around this?

  1. I have a similar problem. Dropped a middle name and made it fit with just the three left.

My Russian friends and staff usually drop their patrynomic.
A Latin friend of mine with like six names just uses given and family names.
Were I to do it again, I’d do the same and drop both middle names.

It _will_ be a problem, notably for me with getting bank accounts.
Basically just choose a shorter alias that fits, and use it consistently.
