The Best Japanese Learners Manga To Start with: Crystal Hunters

I have been trying to learn Japanese on and off for a little bit and recently I came across an amazing resource. This would be the Crystal Hunters Manga series. Each volume is about 100 pages with great artwork. The author also makes a guide available for each volume that contains any new words or grammar points you might find in the manga. It starts with a very limited vocabulary that repeats often and by the second chapter (there are 3 per volume) you really start moving as far as comprehension. The story is by far the best that I have come across at this level of language. So far the author has 6 volumes released with more to come. The first volume is made available for free via browser on his website:[https://crystalhuntersmanga.com/](https://crystalhuntersmanga.com/)The rest are in the kindle unlimited library if you like it. Please give this resource a look and spread the word to other people because as a new learner this has completely rekindled my interest in Japanese and I’m sure there are many out there like myself that will be so happy to have found this resource and be able to enjoy their first manga.

Just for reference my level of Japanese knowledge is that I have read and done some of the work for Genki chapters 1-4 and I have no trouble with this manga (don’t get me wrong it still take a bit but by chapter 2 I was moving much quicker)

Also there is a “natural” version of the manga that uses much more complex language to upgrade to eventually

  1. Inspired by the work made by the Crystal Hunters creators I have translated a comic into easy Japanese (not as easy as the Crystal Hunters though) in order to provide high quality comprehensible input for Japanese learners. Only the first chapter is available at the moment : https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/104774536 (it’s about Yotsubato level).

It comes with a Kanji guide https://drdru.github.io/return_to_parascythe/kanji_guide.html but I am working on making the guide more detailed with all vocabulary and grammar points explained.

(it’s temporary hosted on pixiv so I can showcase it and get some feedback but it will be on a different platform once officially released. It’s free and all chapters will always be.)

I hope it will one day be considered the second best Japanese Learners Comic to start with !

  2. >Edit: lol also feel free to tell me why so many people are downvoting this

you see, there are many VERY wrong things with that crappy excuse of manga… just look through previous threads mentioning it to learn about questionable word choices, strange grammar, and the authors seething about people questioning their competence…
