How do you memorize words more efficiently?

Hello everyone,

I’ve been doing a lot more emersion based studying methods and I’m coming across a ton of new words, but some arent sticking. I made lists on my dictionary for new words

  1. An SRS program like Anki would be the best thing in case you aren’t already doing it.

Other than that memorization becomes easier the more words you know, Since mnemonics also help a lot, It can be something like

You know the word けいかく meaning plan, And you heard the word せいかく meaning accurate, The only difference is the first sound (Assuming ignoring pitch accent)

  2. I do Anki and write new words out in a notebook. Writing words by hand has really helped improve my retention.

  3. Honestly, no clue. I have tried Anki, and it helps for as long as I’m actively drilling with it, but then I forget the moment I stop. I think the secret is you have to use it a lot. Then use it some more. Then some more. Maybe give it a break, then use it some more.

I feel like shows or games that beat some words/phrases into the ground through overuse are helpful for this. The downside is that you don’t get to pick which words you’re learning, and that it would take forever to learn a lot of them. The advantage is that it’s otherwise effortless, because most learning is not.

  4. Pretty much Anki or any flashcards, either software or physical.

It isn’t fun, but you asked for efficiency.

  5. I find having new vocabulary in full sentences helps me. Both normal everyday sentences (so using the word in conversation feels automatic and natural) and nonsensical sentences (to help the word stick in my memory)
