Hello everyone!
So I noticed that 注文する and 発注する both have the same meaning, which is “to order”. What is the difference between those two and in which situation do I use them? Thank you!

発注 is a 注文 that follows a prescribed procedure, presumably involving official paperwork (e.g., to keep track of inventory and shipping info, etc.) and stuff like that, and it’s is what’s used for describing something like a supermarket requesting materials from their suppliers. A “regular” plain old 注文 is more like telling a cashier or waiter what food off of the menu you want to eat.
