Having trouble understanding the の particle in this sentence.

Here’s the sentence:

「新しい言語を学習したいのですね」
(atarashii gengo o gakushuu shitai no desu ne)

“You want to learn a new language, right?”

I know の is a the possessive particle but it seems to also serve other “versatile” purposes. Is there a hidden part of the sentence because it is assumed or known, or am I just reading the particle wrong? (Please use translations and furigana in responses.)

Also if there’s a super good and detailed source for particles please send
