Mine broke after like 3 months in to this season and I was curious what other redditors experiences are with hot carpets. If your broke did you replace it or upgrade to a better device like a kotatsu? Are they known to be pretty unreliable?
They’re pretty simple devices, we have that is at least 10 years old
They’re known to be very reliable and last many many years. It looks like you were unlucky with your product.
I wouldn’t see Kotatsu as an upgrade, it’s just a different product that does different things. I use hotcarpet on my bed and deskchair, kotatsu for the livingroom.
I’ve had the same hot carpet for at least 10 years. Works great, never needed anything more.
I think you just got unlucky with yours, unfortunately
Depends on the brand. We’ve had bad luck and had to replace them every few years.
You have the receipt, try and return it. Shouldn’t have died. They should last years.
Depending on the quality or reason for breaking, you could try to repair it. I’ve actually fixed a few for friends and many just had a dead fuse.
So if you think you’re competent enough and that you won’t be creating a fire hazard, you could disconnect power to the carpet, and open it up to see if it’s anything simple causing the problem. Like a loose wire that just needs to be re-soldered or a fuse that needs to be replaced.
Mine worked for 7 years before we tossed it since we moved to a place with in floor heating.
