My friend’s car (Foreigner) broke down while we were on the road. Luckily we were near a garage. The mechanic is insisting on her license. She feels uncomfortable since it has her address on it and the guy is acting creepy/shady. He stopped asking once her husband came to pick us up.
Is this a normal thing to ask for? What is the purpose? Will points be deducted for whatever reason?

How was the guy ‘acting creepy/shady’? Seems an important detail to miss out. Also how can a mechanic deduct points from your license? lol
My old 2007 car broke 10 times and I think only one or two times did I have to do that
