Itinerary Check: Tokyo & Kyoto

My boyfriend and I are going to be traveling to Tokyo and Kyoto next month. We will be staying in Japan from March 14th-March 24th. This has been a dream trip of mine since I was a kid and we are super excited to finally visit!
A little bit about us: I’m 26 and my boyfriend is 29. We are really into Japanese culture, food, and anime (but between the both of us, my boyfriend watches more anime than I do lol)
We are traveling to Japan from Boston on March 13th and will arrive at Haneda on the 14th at 9:40pm. We will be staying in Shinjuku for the first leg of our trip. Then downtown Kyoto and back to Tokyo in Koto City before we fly back home.

Below is a rundown of our itinerary. We are looking for any suggestions on places/activities/things we should add, remove, or change so that we can make the most out of our short trip. I’ve included some of the restaurants we’re going to try, but our plan is to discover restaurants as we explore the 2 cities.
I’m going to be celebrating my Golden birthday and our anniversary a bit early during our trip, so I’m looking for recommendations on special/romantic restaurants in Tokyo. We are open to any cuisines, but we would like to visit a restaurant that has great cocktails. I’m also looking for recommendations on dessert cafes and bakeries. I have a huge sweet tooth!

Thank you in advance!

  1. Odaiba has a pretty cool science museum. We also rode the monorail-type thing around a few times just for fun and had lunch at a maid cafe.

  2. If you’re going for a walk around Sannenzaka then you should visit Kiyomizudera before.

  3. Maybe check out SG Low in Shibuya for dinner and drinks some night. Offshoot of SG Club which is on the Asia 50 Best bars list but more food-focused. Great vibe too.

For desserts check out Patisserie Asako Iwayanagi. It’s out at Todoroki so not super convenient but it’s VERY good and there’s a super nice park there to walk it off afterward.
