Wearing glasses

Hello! I am a quite new student (I have been learning for less than a year using the classes offered at my university). I like watching Japanese series (in Japanese with English subtitles) and when I hear a word I know (ex: めがね) I try to listen to the sentence and write it in Japanese in Google translation (toward English) to see if I can guess the correct spelling with the audio while getting to learn new vocabulary.

I am currently watching “the Makanai: Cooking for the Maliki house” (really nice show I manage to pick up most of the spelling right as well :D) and there was a sentence they used the sentence めがねかけた to say wearing glasses. However once I reversed the language (from Japanese to English; English to Japanese) the sentence given in Japanese is めがねをかけている.

I understand the presence of the particle を but why is いる added for? Is it just Google translate having trouble?

Anyway thanks for reading!

Ps: if you have any other similar show to suggest I would be very happy to hear about them!

  1. ~ている is the continuous form. The do*ing* part. Look into the て form, even if you haven’t learnt it in class yet. It’s one of, if not the, most important grammar you’ll ever need to learn. Nothing wrong with a head start.

  2. that being said, dont use google translate. Jisho.org or other dedicated JP translation/dictionaries are better
