The good thing is that these rules are garnering attention, which is the first step to change.
Until recently no one even questioned their existence
Child abuse.

Didn’t that other school head honcho already say that stupid fucking rules like this are fucking stupid?
Shit, our oldest lad recently had a school open day, and the kids in his class could wear extra layers in class because it was cold. It did not interfere with the lesson at all, as far as I could tell.
The damned fewls.
Oh my fuck. In the article, the VP of the school says “the rules were created a long time ago and i dont know the purpose of them now.” Then get rid of the rule you fuck wad! Honestly, is stunning how fucking much logic Japanese people dont have.
I’m not a parent, but if I was that would get me on the phone screaming. What happens if your kid wears a coat anyways? Nothing? Teeth sucking?
Edit: “The teachers wear coats but why are we not allowed to? Even if I wear my club’s jumper when I go to school, I always take it off near the school.”
Holy fucking God I would lose my absolute shit. All the kids should organize and wear coats as a protest.
I knew I would find the ‘It has been this way for a long time’ reason in this article. Textbook justification for outdated rules in Japan.
Ah of COURSE it’s Kagoshima I’m not even surprised
What does “some schools” mean? 5%?
Is this the same school that forces kids to [wear short shorts and tshirts in snow storms](https://mainichi.jp/english/articles/20180322/p2a/00m/0na/004000c)?
I was on a food tour recently in Tokyo and a group of students walked by. One of the guests on the tour mentioned how uncomfortable it must be for the students to have to wear skirts and whatnot in the winter cold. The uniforms just don’t seem warm enough especially in the winter. It’s cold and windy.
What about those giant sixth graders who still have to dress in the same way they did in the first grade? Cute little yellow hats with brown short shorts in the middle of winter is not exactly my idea of appropriate clothing.
This is not just Kagoshima. It’s all over Japan. Completely absurd, asanine thinking. Then again, what’s new.
Rules are sacred here, no matter how stupid they are
🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
I am a Japanese student but this fact is not good
Im japanese. it’s kinda wierd, but actually nobody care about that. Although girls can choose pants or skirt, most of them choose skirts.
i live in touhoku region and my school and all the other schools in my town let people wear jackets regardless of season…
This is why Japanese’s culture’s inability to bend the rules sometimes or even break them is so frustrating.
Just wear a fucking a jacket. What are they going to do? Hang you at the gallows. Oh no! You won’t fit in anymore… but you will be the only smart person in the entire school and the only one not cold.
I get nothing but hateful generalizations vibes from Mainichi every time i see it.
1 school is backwards and its ‘Japanese Schools’. Thats like saying American Schools no longer allowing books because of Florida.
LOL just ignore the rules. It’s what my kids do. Teachers gave up warning them a long time ago.
To be fair, they’re halfies, so the teachers probably think shouganai, gaijin no kazoku dakara. I feel pity for the full Jap kids. No exceptions for them it seems.
Nothing unusuall.
Schools are idiot in Japan.
Those stupid rules at schools are only in place because of the parents don’t do anything. If there would be an outcry from the parents side, those rules would be gone in no time.
