In need of help: HSP points/rules

I am thinking of moving to Japan after finishing my MA next year and was checking the permanent resident status and Highly Skilled Professional visa to get all kinds of information. My work profession would be “translator”, so I already dont know in what category I would belong in HSP (or if that is even part of the HSP visa).

So, is it correct that you can get 10p for N2 and additionally 15p for N1?
I dont have any professional work experience prior, as I just get out of uni next year… But with 70p on the HSP scale, I could still get an HSP visa, or am I missing something?

And if I work in Japan for 1 year (lets say min. 3 million yen annual income) and reach 80p can I actually already apply for permanent residency?? Or would I have to wait one more year so I have had 80point 1 year prior to the application? (Would the latter mean if you start work in Japan with 80p you could directly apply after the first year?)

Hopefully this wasnt too messy.. I would be overjoyed if someone could help me understand all of this ^^

    You don’t get both, just 10 for N2 *or* 15 for N1

    You would have to wait until you’ve had 80 points for a full year prior to application.

    Yes!

    This is your main issue; I’m pretty sure translation is not eligible for the HSP visa.

    EDIT: That being said, you don’t need an HSP visa to get the fast-track PR based on HSP points. You just need a 3/5 year residency of some kind.

  2. OP, also note that you don’t get 20+10 for BA plus MA. You get points for your final degree only (plus 5 extra if you have degrees in multiple areas)

    So;
    20 (MA),
    15 (Age; presumably),
    15 (N1),
    10 (Top 300 Unis; presumably(??)),

    Even if you were eligible, I can see maybe 60 here unless I’m missing something. (Which is totally a possibility)

    Regardless, I wouldn’t be overly worried about immediately trying to obtain PR, particularly if you’ve never lived here before.
