Can I go to a foreign country and come back to Japan with a student visa?

I have never left Japan and came back on the same visa so not sure how this works. My visa is a student visa and in my passport under number of entries it says single. Looking to go abroad for a week or so during the summer. Anyone know what I would need to do so there are no problems coming back to Japan? Triple vaccinated if that matters. Cheers

  1. You just tick the “I intend to return to Japan within 1 year” box on your departure card. You usually find them right before the immigration counter for stamping out.

Make sure you check the date your resident card expires though. You don’t want to be out the country if it expires out the country.

  2. As long as your residence card is still valid, you’re still enrolled as a student and you get a re-entry slip at the airport you should be fine.

I went to Korea for a weekend while a student and had 0 issues.
