Hello everyone!
During the application phase I signed up for early departure, and per recommendation on the JET application, I waited until I passed the first stage to make a doctor’s appointment for my certificate of health and submit my FBI criminal background check.
Around two weeks ago, I went to my local police department and got fingerprinted and sent it via mail to the address listed on the FBI page. However, I still have not received any notification of having received and/or completed my background check.
Considering that my interview is 1.5 weeks away and I am required to submit my background check prior to that, what should I do if my background check does not get approved in time?
For those that have already completed their FBI Criminal Background Check, how long did it take to get approved?

I got my fingerprints taken and got the email with the results before I even got home. The email will not have the results. You use the very first email you got from the FBI with the link and pin to log on and it will have the results to download.
If it’s not there yet,, I would email the JET rep now and call the FBI customer service.
If it doesn’t come in time for some reason, I’d guess you’d just not be eligible for early departure, but again, just email your JET rep.
I did it first day I found out I got the interview.
It’s a hindsight 20/20 thing, but in case you get screwed, do what I did:
1. Do the FBI form online first, takes like 10 minutes
2. Go to your post office that has electronic fingerprinting (check the USPS website)
3. Get fingerprinted there
4. I got my results back as I was walking back to the car from the post office (clean record!)
I followed the process listed on the JET application and received my background check from the FBI before I even got back from the post office (where you get your prints done). Did you follow their protocol? You sign up on the FBI site and pay, then go to a post office that offers printing, they send them direct to FBI and then FBI emails you when your bg check is ready.
You’re not the first applicant who has been held up by paperwork. Just keep communicating with your consulate. Explain that you have applied for it with ample time but it’s taking longer. But don’t wait til the last minute to open that communication.
They don’t WANT to disqualify anyone and usually will work with you.
Worst case scenario, you won’t be able to do early departure.
I have my interview next week and am in the same situation. I was told yesterday that they are still processing fingerprints from the 2nd week of January. Today was the 5th business day and no results. The nearest post office that offers printing is almost two hours away so I will wait till after my interview to see if I need to make the trip.
They will usually contact you if there’s an issue. If they don’t then asume they got it.
