Japanese Language Colleges/Programs

I read the FAQ and didn’t see this. If there is another thread for this please let me know and I will delete.

I’ve been looking at taking Japanese courses. I’ve seen the US based programs through colleges but I also saw many programs from several Japanese colleges/universities.

Is there a program that is recommended or any to avoid?

I have the Genki series and started self learning that way but wondered if a program would help me move through quicker.

Thank you for your help!

  1. Would definitely recommend that you do a bachelors in Japanese language IN JAPAN.

    * You will be exposed to much more speaking opportunities and will be able to progress much more rapidly than at a US based program.
    * Graduating from a Japanese University will enable softer paths to immigrate to Japan through the designated activities/job hunting visa after you graduate. This will allow you to stay in the country if you wish and work on your japanese / get a job at a Japanese company much easier than if you were to graduate from a US university.
    * Having a degree from a Japanese university in Japanese studies will give you extra points on the Highly skilled foreign professional scale for Japanese immigration, which will make it easier to immigrate later and give you better options towards achieving permanent residence in Japan.

  2. Are you looking to complete a degree program, or are your interests more aligned with a language-learning school? And, I guess just to be clear, did you want online recommendations or are you committed to learning in Japan?

  3. How old are you and what is your end goal?

Are you just looking to take courses?

Do you want to move to Japan?

Do you want to study more about Japan/Japanese culture?
