How would the Japanese government know if you are separated from your partner?

If the partner doesn’t report it. Would a police report by the partner saying they aren’t going home do it?

  1. Did you register a new address via a ten in todoke? AFAIK, city halls track residence statuses which is all accessible by immigration. If you only moved out and are still registered on your partner’s address, then I don’t think they will know.

  2. As long as you keep registered in the same address it should be fine. If that’s unavoidable, I believe he can write a letter/get a document (?) to explain the situation. The city hall won’t contact the immigration (in my experience).
