Itinerary Check – 1.5/2 weeks in Tokyo; is this too much/little?

I’ll be going to Tokyo for the first time this coming Monday! I’m not sure if I have too much going on, or if I have too little.

**Day 1**
– land in Haneda airport at 6.30pmish
– after checking in, head to Akihabara for dinner / walk around

**Day 2**
– Explore around Kichijoji
Рhead to Tokyo SkyTree (Aquarium, Pok̩mon Centre and other shopping)

**Day 3**
– explore Shibuya and Ikebukuro *
(planning to head to Otome road, but does anyone know if there are public toilets around the area? It’s a concern for the person I’m traveling with, as it’s mostly anime/cosplay stores there and she’s worried about going to the bathroom)

**Day 4**
– Travel to Yokohama for the cup noddle museum!

**Day 5**
– Tokyo station; exploring Akihabara

**Day 6**
– Exploring Shinjuku

**Day 7 – Day 10**
– drop off bags at the Disneyland resort/hotel on day7, and stop by DisneySea! After that, check in.
– Disneyland for the next day
– Check out after day after

**Day 11**
– explore Ikebukuro if not enough time on day 3!
– Cosmo planetarium

**Day 12**
– end!

I’m not sure if I’m squeezing too much into one day, so I’d appreciate any help! Thank you in advance!

  1. Your itinerary is different than mine, but when I went there a few years ago I think we had roughly 6N in Tokyo and I felt like that was enough. We ended up going to the Kawaii Monster Cafe (cute food that tastes terrible) and a vampire cafe.

Your Yokohama day seems awfully empty. If you have any mecha nerd in you, you could see the mobile Gundam.

Seems like you’re not doing anything for day 10? Or is that a 3rd amusement park day?

Fortunately, if you feel like you’re spending too much time in Tokyo you could day trip to Kamakura, Kawaguchiko, or maybe even Nikko.

We spent an evening in Disney Sea (reduced fare ticket) and since it started lightly raining we were able to go on any ride we wanted with ease (except for the Toy Story ride which still had an insane line.) But given that you’re allocating two days to amusement parks, I assume it’s something you’re very interested in.

  2. This sounds like a relaxing, fun time! You definitely don’t have too much per day. Sounds like you really plan on taking your time exploring each location. If you really enjoy taking your time at every shop, this is plenty. However, I suggest maybe planning on some alternatives as you might find exploring all the various anime stores starting to look a little redundant after the 3rd day (at least my experience).

You seem very interested in experiencing Japanese city life. I suggest maybe taking 1 day to get away and experiencing more “rural” areas. (Kamakura, Nikko, Kawaguchiko).

  3. If you need a washroom in Otome Road you can go to a cafe, or walk a few minutes to Sunshine City shopping mall. Also, you seem to have scheduled an entire day each way to swap hotels and get to and from Tokyo Disney Resort. That should take only an hour or two, so probably want to plan something else on those days.

Other than that, nice and relaxed. Could add stuff or play it by ear. Enjoy your trip.

  4. Otome Road in Ikebukuro is pretty close to Sunshine City, which has plenty of public toilets. There’s also a Pokemon Center in there too.

I haven’t been to Japan since 2019, so I’m not sure if this is accurate anymore, but they close down the main road in Akihabara on Sundays so it was easier to explore around there on a Sunday.

  5. Three nights for Disneyland and Disney sea sounds excessive to me. I think you can definitely do more than one or two districts in a day. You might want to add some other districts like Odaiba, Nakano, Ueno, and/or Asakusa. Apart from TDL, you could probably do everything you’ve got planned in a week.

  6. 3 nights is definitely to much for the disney parks. They are 1 day each easy. Unless you wanna just stay in the hotel for some reason a extra night. Might be better to spend the extra day at Odaiba(Both Toyosu and Tsukiji Market are near by) maybe?

Also, Kichijoji is on the opposite end of the city as skytree it would be a hour or more on transit to commute. Unless you’re going to the ghibli park you can walk around Kichijoji in a hour. If you like anime and games maybe fit Nakano Broadway(Anime and video game shops) and it’s cool izakaya alleys along with the kichijoji visit. They are only a couple stations apart. Koenji is also worth a visit and is a stop between the two, From here it would be easier to go to Ikebukuro or Shinjuku which are both closer than Shibuya. Or even Takadanobaba which has the retro arcade Mikado.

With visiting skytree I would fit it in a day along with Ueno station/Ameyoko and maybe a quick stroll through the park. Then Asakusa and Skytree. Make a day out of it. They are all in relatively close proximity. Have a beer at the Asahi Golden Turd.

Also for toilets. Konbinis will have one if there not in a crazy busy area like shibuya station for example. Two other places that you can walk in to use toilets. Game Arcades and Pachinko Parlors.

Make sure you check out China Town in Yokohama and Red Brick Warehouse.

Yes, in every train station. In the department stores and mall…. like the Tobu and Seibu department stores at Ikebukuro station or Sunshine city across the street from otome road. Big stores likely have toilets too, I bet there will be in the new Animate.
