Best ISP in Kobe

I am looking for recommendations on the best fiber ISP in Kita-ku, Kobe. Our new apartment has fiber built to it already on FLETs hikari. My understanding is that this is the NTT fiber backbone. I am not sure if any other providers are built out in the area yet.

I work from home as a network engineer, so I’d like to get a 1gbps connection with a static IP.

SOFTBANK appears to be a good option based off my research, but I cannot find any info specific to Kobe. I do not see options for a static IP with a residential connection.

Asahi Net offers the options I would really like to get for a great price, like static IP, but I’ve read a lot of horror stories of terrible congestion during peak hours. My fiance also suggested we not buy service through Asahi Net.

Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated.

  1. No, do not pick softbank as to get working IPv6 you’ll need to rent their router monthly, and you won’t be able to use your own device. Without the rental you’re limited to PPPoE which *will* be slow.

Asahi-net is fine. Use their static IP option + PPPoE for incoming services (over ipv4) but use IPoE + ipv4 over6 tunnel for general internet usage.

You can do same with OCN (tho I think their fixed IP option is significantly more expensive).

How I personally deal with this is I’ve moved most of my services to IPv6, which are supposed to be dynamic but are extremely sticky and I’ve had same IPs on devices for years now. I have several PPPoE sessions for the remaining services that I want accessible over V4, and the rest of the stuff is routed through the IPoE tunnel.

  2. I had FLETS Hikari, and Excite as the ISP, as it was super cheap. But over time congestion became a real problem; they suggested that I move to their IPv6 service. This required that I upgrade my router (I spent 5,000 yen for [this](https://www.amazon.co.jp/dp/B086WDY9XS) ), and I never had a problem after that. Kyoto, FWIW.
