Hello everyone,
Since a few years I have my own 4G router (I travel “frequently” and as I’m usually travelling with my wife or with friends, 4G router is more convenient compared to draining my phones battery by tethering). My router funtions on the following bands: B1/ B3/ B5/ B7/ B8/ B20/ B32/B38.
From what I could find online, SoftBank has coverage for B1/B3/B8 (I’m guessing B1/B3 for cities, B8 for rural connectivity). So they seem (by far) the best option.
Now, I’m trying to figure out what I should do regarding the SIM card.
Ideally I would like unlimited data for a minimum of 20 days. But it seems this isn’t a real option. It seems 10GB (90 day period) for around ¥7000 is the best offer. We might make it with 10GB, but most likely I would buy 2 because “just in case”.
When looking online, I see Amazon Japan (via resellers) is selling some SoftBank SIM cards with 10GB of data for around ¥2500; but they have expiry dates in (for example) May or June. Which is fine for my travel dates.
Even with delivery costs, 2 of these SIM cards would only set me back around ¥6000 yen, which is looking a lot more interesting.
Is there any catch to this? As it is via Amazon I’m guessing it is legal, reviews seem quite alright as well.
Is this my best course of action, or can someone propose an alternative?
Thanks!

fwiw, i picked up a softbank SIM card at narita airport that was 10GB for 20 days for 5500-ish yen. there were also sellers for unlimited data using docomo’s network, but i don’t remember the pricing. so i can’t speak to the validity of resellers, but there are definitely more options in-person.
Regarding price, I got 50GB on Docomo network with Global Advanced Communications for 7980. Never tried it, but it is the recommended one on the FAQ so I decided to try. Will know in a month if it’s any good.
They also have 10G Softbank for 4980

Honestly no idea how good or bad the cards found on Amazon are.
