In two different stages of applying for JET and another program!

I’m currently in two different stages of two different programs, so I’m in a post-interview medical clearance stage with another program (which is very stressful), and I have my interview for JET with the consulate next week (wish me luck) and any advice for preparing for the interview would be helpful!

But with the other program, I see numerous reddit posts about people getting denied medical clearance after passing the interview stage despite all the hard work they had already put in. Therefore, I just wanted to make sure and see if JET has an equivalent to a post-interview medical clearance stage?

I know we completed a medical info form during applications and just wanted to double check with people who have went on to the JET programme. This medical clearance process with the other program has me on edge so much, I’m starting to lean more towards JET at this point! 😭😂

  1. People don’t talk about this.

In JET if you are denied for medical reasons they will not tell you.

  2. Anecdotal, but your medical issues have to be pretty severe to make it have an impact on your application.

There’s been ALTs with things like MS (that definitely affected their ability to work), but still were accepted.

Again, you’ll never know if that’s why you were rejected – however there’s tons of people here with medical issues, so as long as it’s controlled, you should be fine.

  3. It would have to be a fairly severe issue.

People that are immuno-compromised or have life long health issues can get through.

It’s a matter of if you can be confident in your ability to be in Japan and maintain good health while fulfilling your contract.

ESID, so really depends on how you conditions impact your capabilities.
