I posted some stuff on Mercari last night and I already sold an item. I feel so powerful. Please tell me your positive Mercari experiences so I can ride this high forever.
Haha sounds amazing dude, I have never used it myself but might check it out.
I bought an item, the seller thanked me for buying it, and we each gave positive feedback to the other when the item arrived.
A nice pleasant transaction and nothing like the “stay in continuous contact and update the other person on every tiny detail” nightmare that I often hear about with Mercari.
Congrats!!! My hobby is crane games and I sell plenty of my wins on Mercari. Good luck with all your sales!
As long as you over communicate during the shipping/receiving process you will be fine. Most of the big sellers have automated this so every time I buy something get like 5 messages:
1) thank you x100 and I will move heaven and earth to ship your product as soon as possible.
2) I have shipped your product using the post office , here is your tracking number, it should arrive by xxx. If it doesn’t please let me know and I will move heaven and earth to track it down for you. Also if it’s not a burden please click in the app accept when you receive the package.
3) I see the package has arrived. I hope you are enjoying your product and if possible and not too much trouble can you confirm in the app (passive aggressive tone: so I can get paid).
4) thank you for confirming and I left you a good review that’s reflective of our mutually beneficial transaction.
5) thank you for leaving me a great review. I genuinely enjoyed our short transaction and I hope we can do business again.
It’s honestly too much but some sellers are nuts. I am sure these are text expander type of message but still it’s annoying as a buyer to have to respond to each one or they will leave a one star- no response to message review hurting your ability to negotiate discounts going forward
I remember my first time selling an item on Mercari — I had bought a rice cooker from Yodobashi a year previous, for something like 5,000 yen.
Being the lazy ass I am, I ate Yoshinoya or McDonalds every day and never took it out of the packaging. It still had the little black plastic handle that they strap onto bigger boxes.
I put it on Mercari for 3,500, figuring that was a reasonable discount for an unused, but pre-owned item. I got a comment within a minute or two asking to discount it to 2,800 yen. As I was showing this to my girlfriend “Wow I got a comment already! Good thing I didn’t just throw it away!” I got another comment offering 3,000.
I was fine with this so I started writing a comment back “sure I’ll change the price now…” but before I could post that it had already sold for 3,500.
So it sold for 70% or so of MSRP within five minutes. Yodobashi could put a “30% off” sticker on their products in the store and they would not sell that quickly. Mercari is amazing.
Enjoy your time on Mercari! You will get addicted!!!
I was on a roll with selling my handmade goods. I raked in an extra ¥30,000 a month and was enjoying the extra cash until I flew too close to the sun. A couple of my handmade goods were in violation of their policy. After three warnings I was banned. The first warning I thought was a fluke. Second and third were on unrelated items that I thought would not get flagged. After that they locked my account, told me to wrap up my last sales and empty out my funds in 180 days. There are other flea market apps out there but none get so much traffic as Mercari.
Mercari is great, I’ve sold a bunch of stuff. I have like Y50,000 yen sitting on there. Have my eye on a used Les Paul. I’ve bought and sold a fair bit, and my interactions have been uniformly positive. My wife also uses it as well, usually clothes.
I use it to buy and sell Pokémon cards. I’ve made quite a bit on it, but I haven’t been able to verify and link my account/bank to withdraw my money. In that sense it has been frustrating, but overall I enjoy Mercari.
Was very drunk over new years 19-20 and ordered from Alibaba 200 shirts of the soccer player Minamino, who had just moved to Liverpool. Cost 30man or so and was shitting bricks when I woke up the next morning.
