Hello everyone,
I’m looking for some input for our itinerary.
Traveling with 3 kids (5,8,10), 3 adults (35, 41,40). We typically start the day pretty early (try to be out and about by 8:30-9:00 AM.)
We were planning on splitting 4 nights at Tokyo and 4 nights in Kyoto
Main goal is to check out cherry blossom.
Dates: 03/24 Land in NRT at 5:30 PM
Departure: 04/01 NRT at 6:30 PM
Booked hotel at MONday Apart AKIHABARA
Planned attractions in Tokyo: Ueno Park, Shinjuku Goyen, Shibuya Ski, Tokyo Sky Tree, Tokyo Tower, Mt Fuji day tour, TeamLab, Art Aquarium, Tsukiji Market
Depart Tokyo to Kyoto 03/28
Booked hotel at Hotel BRILLER Kyoto Station
Planned attractions in Kyoto: kimono rental/photos, Arashiyama, bamboo Forrest, Daigoji, Nishiki Market, Fushimi-Inari Shrine, Osaka Day Tour(aquarium, Dotonburi, Umeda Sky or Osaka Castle)
Depart Kyoto to NRT 04/01
I didn’t specify any dates since I didn’t want to overplan these attractions. We’ll try to hit up as many as we can. Any inputs are welcome. Right now, we’re flexible with the split between Kyoto and Tokyo.
Since there are 6 of us with no stroller, would it better to Uber/Lyft everywhere while in the city, rather than take the train?
Should we get the JR Pass? If Yes, when should we do it?
Thanks so much

Trains are very convenient in Japan especially the big cities. Uber/taxis can get pretty pricey
You can order the JR pass up to 2 months before collection in Japan. You would be able to save a lot of money considering you would be taking the bullet train twice in 7 days and your hotels/attractions are near JR stations. The kids under 12 can get cheaper passes as well
Why don’t you bring the kids to see the Gundam factory in yokohama before it is shutdown permanently? The kids will love it.
You can skip the theme parks ( in fact they are great options too) as you can find them in other countries but a giant moving robot is not somewhere you would see very often
