I submitted my visa for renewal in mid January (through my dispatch company). Toward the end of Jan they asked for an additional document (my payslip from my part time work) and rn it’s still under review with immigration. My current visa expires on the 13th of March. What are the chances that it won’t get renewed in time?
(Please don’t guess and only answer if you’ve had a relevant experience)
I really want to stay in Japan another year but a bigger concern is that if the visa doesn’t come through, I’ll have to leave before the school year ends.

It’ll be fine that’s plenty of time. Worst case if its getting to close go to immigration and get another stamp extending your SoR while the renewal is being processed.
