Looking for English teacher job in Sapporo

I just moved to Sapporo to be with family and I’m looking for an English teaching job nearby. I can’t relocate. I have no experience but I’m fluent in English and have 18 years of education with every subject completely taught in English (I have a masters degree). I’ve been looking online but there aren’t many job posts for Hokkaido and even less for Sapporo . Any tips or advice?

Thanks in advance!

  1. If you have subject experience, why not try HIS, the local international school. They are hiring now for posts next year, some for right now. They are also looking for subs and pay 3,500 a block for that.

  2. Your post is a bit unclear, are you saying you have an MA in a feild related to teaching? But with no teaching experience, the MA won’t get you far. Most universities would consider your MA out of date if it was completed more than 3-4 years ago. But there are dispatch companies who wouldn’t care much, so you might want to try those if you are truly desperate. They are horrible to work for, but it’s work, you know? Westgate is one of them; pay is not good, but it gets a foot in the door.

There must be branches of the major eikaiwa chains in Sapporo. They often hire year round. Try googling Nova, Aeon, ECC, Berlitz, Gaba.

Any smaller schools might not advertise positions so often. You would need to network. Find the local hangouts for expats and make friends. Locals know far more than anything you could find online.

    Good luck!
