Difference between 話すand 話せる?

A friend wrote me “あなたと話せる日が楽しみです!” I guess it’s something like: “I’m looking forward to have a chat with you someday”.

  1. はなす – to chat/speak

はなせる – to be able to chat/speak

はなせる is the potential form, can do X or able to do X.

Your friend’s message is more to a flavour of ‘looking forward to the day I can have the opportunity to/be able to chat with you’
