Anyone gotten their residency status changed since the borders opened? It’s been a month and 2 weeks and still nothing

I have a 特定活動 visa. My work starts 2 weeks from now and it’s been 6 weeks since I had applied for the change to the engineer visa and I haven’t received the notification postcard. I told my company about this and they told me that I could just start the month after. I’d love to but I can’t live another month with just baito salary. Has anyone gotten theirs done? How long did it take?

  1. I renewed sometime in December and it took around 6 weeks this time. It was kind of worrying since the past few times I renewed it only took like 3 weeks or so. I finally broke the curse of the 1 year visa though! Hopefully yours comes soon.

  2. They’re really bogged down, especially during the winter when new alts and english teachers are coming in droves for March/April. You’ll get your notice eventually, and if you’re worried you can call the immigration center.

  3. Changed from the specialist to a professor visa back in October and it took 6 weeks or so. Initially I applied for the specialist one then after about a month they called me and asked me to put in an application to change to professor. From there it took another couple of weeks or so.

I think their processing time has just gone up to be honest. Used to only take a week or two.

  4. Did mine in early November and took until mid-December to get back to me with confirmation, though it was a three-year visa for the firs time so I just figured it was that.
