Hello everyone. Are there companies here in Japan that hire english speaking people for developer roles without skills or experience? Basically, companies that are willing to train people then give them work after. I don’t mind if the pay is low, I just need to get into the tech industry and also get a working visa since my student visa (for kaigo) will expire in two months. I hope someone here can help me, I badly need it. Thank you so much.

Lots of large organisations do this, especially in Japan. But you have to be worth investing in. For example right now at work I have a “fresher” who I need to train up. They are completely useless but have a CS degree and thus have a proven basic understanding of computing and ability to learn.
The only person I’ve heard this happening was my cousin-in-law’s husband, about 8 years ago. But he’s Japanese, and it was a Japanese company, and he was a recent CS grad at the time….
All the other people I know never had company sponsored training. Everyone had knowledge and personal experience coding beforehand. I do know a few folks who were hired not knowing much webdev, but they had worked in industries like gaming and data stuff for years prior. All the job postings I’ve ever seen want you to list your skills, look through your code, and verify through testing or knowledge talk. Recruiters will only go as far to check through your listed skills on a resume.
The fact is, any job posting in an English speaking company/team looking for juniors will get hundreds of applications with people who have skills and knowledge related to the job. Because of this, companies don’t really need to build people into capable workers; they just need to choose people who seem the most likely to get up and running on their code base. But this can be a struggle. There certainly are internships around, but I have zero clue about visa stuff in regards to that, and the number of applications would be far greater in number.
I am basically doing that. I think you are looking for a long internship mayhaps.
This would be a lot easier if you brushed up your Japanese skills tbh. Is this not an option? Many Japanese companies have training programmes and are willing to hire people with 0 experience. They are in Japanese though.
Not totally agreeing with the person above. There is a huge shortage of devs in Japan and English speaking ones are really hard to find. Would be better if you had some more skills and jp but you never know.
You just described how 新卒 works for any company.
These kind of roles are only possible with a Computer Science degree and they are quite competitive(lots of people applying).
If you have no degree its basically impossible. You’ll have to learn it all yourself and get the skills needed before you would get employed
What about just freelance work?
