If I have a Genki deck that is organized with subdecks including words from each chapter, is there any way I can avoid introducing words from new chapters until I’m ready? Can I lock a subdeck and then unlock it when I’m ready? I tried setting the reviews for the subdeck to 0 but it affected every subdeck in the main deck.
How do people handle this?

just keep it at 0 and use custom study to add new cards as needed
In anki, decks share settings profiles. In your deck settings, make a copy of the profile and set that to 0 new reviews, then only set your genki subdeck to that profile.
