Can anyone share with me their experience using the paid version of the [Learn Japanese! – Kanji Study](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lulilanguages.j5KjAnd&hl=en_US&gl=US) on android? I’m mostly interested in using the spaced repetition feature to get better at writing from memory. But that featured is completely locked behind a paywall and I can’t even trial it.

I like this app a lot and am glad I paid for it, but I also use ringotan to practice kanji, which has better srs. It feels like the srs on this app is a little *too* spaced, and I wish it would bring older stuff up for review a bit more, but I think for learning, especially learning vocab along with kanji, it’s great. If you want more practice on vocab I’d use something like anki or jpdb, and if you want more practice on kanji I highly recommend ringotan. But I found the cost of this app to be very reasonable and super worth it.
I used the iOS version but I can’t imagine the experience being any different. as far as space repetition is concerned, it’s a pretty good app. The problem is at least for me I ended up dropping it because it wasn’t really teaching me the main readings for Kanji or even the meanings. teaching you kanji using vocab is a great idea to get a beginner used to kanji…but the downside to that is that it usually only teaches you the readings very far between…
Meaning it might teach you 代物(しろもの) and like 200 words later it teaches you another reading for 代 such as 現代(げんだい)…maybe 50 Words later it teaches you 代わる(かわる)…etc…readings being too spaced out for me is a problem
another big problem and this is more of a technical problem is the fact that while I was already going through N2 kanji the creator released two different updates at different times, but they were both very problematic and really made me lose trust in the app
The first update, completely erased my progress that means all of the kanji that I had already studied gone…
after I talked to the creator directly through email, i managed to get it back, however the second update was even more problematic. After which I just dropped it and I went to another app that actually worked for me very well.
that second update basically reset the SRS…I could still see all of the kanji that I had already gone through but the SRS thought that I never really actually studied anything so I basically was forced to start from the beginning……after like 7 months worth of work…
I did Restart my progress but not using the app…I switched apps, but I think the one i switched to is only available on iOS. Maybe there’s an equivalent to that in android, but I don’t know it. the one i used was [ikanji](https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/ikanji-learn-japanese-kanji/id311920885?l=ja)
TL;DR this app is not worth your time and money….save your money, and you’ll save a ton of headaches…. find another app
