Hello readers!
Thank you for finding my post. I was hoping to reach out to those of you who live in Japan for some help.
Some background of my story:
I was born in Kiev, and then moved to the city of Khabarofsk where I grew up and lived with my family up until 10 years ago. My parents both worked for a precious metal prospecting company based on the Amur river that would fly us as a family to Sapporo, Osaka, and Tokyo for business. We would end up spending almost a fourth of each year in Japan due to these visits. I really enjoyed visiting Japan as a kid and would love to return one day.
My dad had been a fan of cars for a very long time since earlier in his life he was a car mechanic. During one of our trips, he decided to buy the shell of an old racing Skyline that was crashed at a track in Japan. He spent years restoring the car and taught me the basics of dealing with a car. It is now located in Guam, where he retired to. He is moving back to the U.S. mainland and I would like to build a car alongside him as he did with me almost 15 years ago.
I have been doing my best to locate a car in a similar condition to what he found his in or better. However, it seems that there is a bit of pushback from where I have looked. Car importers carry only cars in amazing shape that do not need any work, which is pretty much the opposite of what I want. Additionally, those cars sell for astronomical prices. I have looked at the Skyline and Skyline GTR market over the past few weeks and have noticed that the cars are very expensive for what some older cars should be. Being somewhat knowledgeable about cars, I always knew there was a panic around these cars, but I didn’t realize how big it was. I am trying to purchase the car so I can spent time working on it, but I cannot find any cars that are pretty much crashed or rolling shells anywhere online.
I reached out to a few people i knew from my childhood that lived in Japan, but only a couple still lived there and they did not find much. I did get a cool hint about where to look though. Someone suggested that I or a friend look at the salvage yards next to race tracks to find cars that have been crashed there and try to purchase one from there. Unfortunately, I do not know anyone is these areas and that is why i am reaching out to this community. I have been trying to track a good car/shell down for almost a year on my own with no luck. Would anyone be willing to help me out or direct me to someone who can? I would be willing to pay a good commission for helping me find something and transporting it to port. If the car is missing an engine, (and preferably the drivetrain too) it is not considered an actual car in the united States and as considered just a car part. Shipping it like any normal cargo would suffice according to my research. This would be the ideal scenario in my case.
I would absolutely love to not only restore a car that is currently destined to rust away. Not only am I not pulling a working example of a Skyline from Japan, but I would be restoring one that would probably never see the road again.
My father moves back to the United States in just a couple of weeks, so i know I have clearly missed the opportunity to get it here on time. But ideally, I would like to take on this project at some point in my life even if it is a long time from now.

So what’s, uh, your question exactly?
Might do better in a subreddit that is for people IN Japan, as opposed to centered around the Japanese Language.
Maybe see if you can find any car clubs in Japan/low key car collectors and reach out to them- might take some networking over time, but keep putting your question out there and see if you can find someone who knows someone. Good luck!
