getting a master’s degree in a korean university to work in japan?

hey all,

i’ve seen the numerous long threads and comments about japanese english programs; while i agree with some parts, not everything holds true.

anyway! i’m getting my BBA in a top business school in france, i’m planning on doing my master’s degree abroad in asia, as that’s simply what i want to do (i’m east asian) and the diversity would be good for my CV.
an alumni whom i regularly talk to, he lives in japan, also recommended i do this. he often helps me with questions and such.

what i wanted to know is how good/valuable would a degree in business from a korean university be? i’m planning on applying for a couple of japanese universities, as well as SKY in korea (top 3). NUS (national university of singapore) was in my options but unfortunately, my sister did her masters there and i don’t want to follow the same path.

also, i’m curious as to know which majors in business are highly valuable in japan, apart from finance and accounting? an MBA? — i know japan doesn’t really grasp the concept of an MBA — management? marketing? international business? etc

thoughts?

I think this is a question for your alumni friend in Japan.

Assuming prestige is what you’re after, SKY is well known in Korea, but still not as well regarded as top Universities in the US/England (IVYs + Ox/Cam)

What is your end goal? What are you hoping to get out of your degree? Before pursuing a Master’s you should know what positions or industry you want to get into. A couple friends are currently in an Executive MBA (requires at least 10 years of industry experience) and the whole point of the MBA is to establish a partnership with experts in the field (think directors, board/committee mems, etc.). They can then go back to their own positions (as managers and directors themselves) with an idea of growing/expanding their own teams.

  2. Where you got your degree doesn’t count for much outside of the country you got it in, except in cases where the University is either world famous in general or famous specifically in the field you’re pursuing. Japanese firms care much more about experience when they hire foreigners.

How do you know Japanese companies don’t grasp the concept of an MBA, do you currently work in HR at a Japanese company? Like I said before , they care more about experience. Learn Japanese and get job experience. If you get your graduate degree here, you’ll probably find some kind of job, but your salary will be low and your career progression slow.
