Hello! i’m going to be travelling to Tokyo again, after waiting forever for them to open the border, and I have a quick question regarding needle disposal; just how do you throw them away? Here in Canada we take the container back to the drugstore and they dispose of them, but visiting Hawaii last year we were kinda stumped to learn that you just throw them in the trash (…that sounds so unsafe) so I figured I’d ask ahead this time! I’ve never had to use needles in Japan before (recent condition) so I have no clue how to handle it. Thanks!

No idea, but just wanted to make sure you know there is paperwork to fill when you bring some drugs and medical goods and I think needles and stuff like that need the paperwork.
A friend who previous traveled to Japan put his needles in an empty water bottle and brought them home to dispose of them. This is my plan for when I travel next month unless I can readily find a disposal location.
I think it depends on the location, even inside Tokyo there are different cities like Shinjuku, Toshima, Shibuya and so on… the safest thing is to bring them to a nearby clinic and ask them how to dispose of it or to dispose of it for you. Another possibility is to ask at the hotel or tourist information. Keep the used needles inside a bottle or secure storage in the meanwhile.

Noncombustible Garbage:
(Nonflammable trash such as plastic, metal, glass, ceramic, rubber and leather, and knives, needles, light bulbs, etc.) Dangerous substances must be disposed in a high level transparent bag so that the content can easily be confirmed. Needles must be put in a bottle or a can which is firmly capped
