Buying a PS 5 for a friend overseas

I wanted to buy playstation 5 as a gift for a friend living outside Japan (US to be specific) and I wonder if someone had the same experience with no problems with language, compatibility etc..

  1. Nope. You can set the language feature as soon as you fire it up for the first time. I was worried about that when I first bought mine. No issue at all.

  2. As soon as you turn it on, it will have you select your preferred language. (The health and safety warning might be in the console’s default language.) If you have a Playstation Network account, and you try to buy something digital, you will be taken to the store for the country you set your account up in no matter where the console itself was manufactured.

In short: your US friend can use it just fine.

  3. Thankfully the days of heavy region locks is going away with hardware. It’s also insanely considerate for you to do this for a friend!

  4. The adapter / plug will be the problem (I have an Australian one, and had to change the plug). May want to look into that first to see if you can get the correct adapter / socket.

  5. Cheaper to buy in USA online then ship to his/her address. Also, more available.nthay being said there will be zero compatibility issues.

  6. My student in Japan bought his PS5 from Amazon US and it was cheaper and easier to get.

Is there a particular reason you want to send one from here?

  7. One thing to watch out for if you get one with a game combo, the game code is specific to the region.

Aka the code for Horizon Forbidden West didn’t work on my US account, only Japan account.

  8. Wouldn’t it just be easier to buy it online from a US store and get it delivered it to your friend? (e.g. Amazon USA). Buying something as big and pricey as a PS5 in Japan and sending it all the way to the US just sounds like a big pain in the arse (and will probably cost a lot in shipping fees).
