First trip to Japan !

For context I’m arriving in Japan on feb 27th and returning April 7th.

My entire itinerary is not complete ( 90% Okinawa got thrown in for the last weekend I’m there)

As far as Kyoto goes I based the location close to my hotel. I added time based on walking distance ( I guess a bike rental would not be a bad idea, the only place that’s really out of the way is the bamboo forest)

Tokyo for drinking night is based on the order of preference and goes down the list on order by distance.

I really appreciate any and all input and please recommend me any spots that might be cool! For now I’m going to mostly all the tourist spots and a few places here and there.

The Fukuoka trip is not planned because my fiancés parents are from there.

  1. it sounds like there are a lot of plans being made.

    When you go to Shibuya…

    LINE FRIENDS FLAGSHIP STORE

If time permits, visiting places like Kamakura would be nice.
You can get there from Tokyo in just over an hour. There are beautiful gardens with bamboo groves and cut-throughs.

  2. It looks like you have put together a pretty well thought out itinerary for your trip to Japan, with a mix of popular tourist destinations and some off-the-beaten-path spots. However, here are a few points of feedback that could help make your trip even better:

    1. Consider spending more time in Kyoto: Kyoto is a very culturally rich city, and there is a lot to see and do there. You might want to consider spending a bit more time there to ensure that you have enough time to see all the sites and fully experience the city’s culture.
    2. Don’t forget to try out local cuisine: Japan is well known for its amazing food, so be sure to try out some of the local cuisine. While Starbucks may be familiar, there are many great coffee shops in Japan where you can enjoy a good cup of coffee along with some delicious Japanese treats. And when it comes to restaurants, don’t be afraid to try something new and different.
    3. Keep in mind the distance and logistics of your Tokyo bar hopping: You have a lot of bars and nightlife spots on your list in Tokyo, but some of them are spread out across the city. Be sure to consider travel times and logistics when planning your evening to ensure that you have enough time to fully enjoy each spot.
    4. Be mindful of the local customs and manners: Japan has its own unique customs and manners, so it’s important to be respectful and mindful of these while you are there. For example, it’s considered rude to talk loudly or make noise on public transportation, so be sure to keep your voice down and be mindful of others.

Overall, your itinerary looks like a good starting point, and with a few tweaks and adjustments, you can make sure that you have an amazing trip to Japan. Enjoy your travels!

  3. I am slightly confused with the format you present your itinerary, but thats probably just me?

What I do like is you obviously considered travel times. This can be very important. If you have go down to minute resolution is another discussion though.

I have some thoughts on Kyoto. You are heading there at 9am, so I will assume you will be there at around noon. Your hotel is a 15 minute walk from Pontocho, 7min from K36 Rooftop bar, so your hotel is most likely between Kennin-ji, Kodai-ji and Yasaka.

I would suggest you explore the area around the hotel in the afternoon. Kiyomizudera would be a great choice. There is sooo much to see. I am not sure a bike will serve you well in the area.

Forget the bamboo grove. Its not worth it to travel to Arashiyama just for that. And, in Kodaiji there is a very small bamboo grove to see…
Aaand, if you HAVE to see it in Arashiyama, you could go there at like 6-7pm in the time after temples close and before bars are open.

Pontocho, bars, thats all evening stuff.

    Next day seems pretty solid.

Sunday, when you are seeing Kodaiji, please dont overlook Entokuin.

enjoy Kyoto. The area your hotel is in is lovely.
