I’m going to Japan in March with someone who has studied animation and worked as a professional animator. Can anyone recommend any museums, or exhibits, or even tours of animation studios? Or animation schools that might have interesting tours? Looking for stuff a bit beyond the most obvious like the Ghibli museum.
EDIT: So I got a couple notifications of responses recommending museums but now I cannot see those comments. Please PM me if your comment was deleted. Perhaps automod removes comments with links.

The [Fukuoka Asian Art Museum](https://maps.google.com/?cid=7785245574822476952) had an interesting animation exhibit when I was down there last year.
The only one I can think of off the top of my head is the Suginami Animation Museum (https://sam.or.jp/). It is kind of small and I am not sure how interesting it would be to someone who is a professional but there you go.
There is a Mandarake store in Nakano Broadway that has cels. genga/douga, sets of refernce sheets, and other things like that for sale

The Sukagawa Tokusatsu Archive and the Tsuburaya Museum also in Sukagawa, Fukushima are great. The former features a 20 minute film on Anno Hideaki that captures dots Anno’s background in tokusatsu, his relationship with Hayao Miyazaki and his thought process that goes into film making.
