Looking for a kimono rental place for my trip to Nagoya

Hello everyone! I’ve posted here before asking about dating Japanese men and to give a short update, I have gotten myself a Japanese boyfriend! Anyway we are planning to visit Nagoya and I really wanted to rent kimonos to walk around in. Would anyone know any shops where we can go? would it be a better idea if we go to Kyoto for the day and do a kimono rental there instead? Thank you in advance 🙂

  1. Congrats on the boyfriend I suppose! I mean, we are in Japan where there are a fair few eligible Japanese men so the odds were probably on your side.

Nagoya is just wide modern streets, a castle under repair and morning toast sets. If you want to dress up, go to Kyoto.

  2. Nagoya resident here – this is the wrong city for walking around in a kimono.

    Go to Kyoto for that.

  3. Don’t know about renting but you can buy second hand at Komehyo Nagoya Honkan Kimono Store from memory.

I think it was this one: 2 Chome-19-22 Osu, Naka Ward, Nagoya, Aichi 460-0011, Japan

I got a couple for traditional ones for martial arts displays (i.e. not fancy looking) for maybe a hundred bucks each from there I think.

  4. Congrats!

I’d personally recommend renting Kimono in Nikko, Tochigi! Had a great experience there with that, it’s a really lovely smaller town, with some of its own UNESCO world heritage sites, less bustling than Kyoto, and you might find it more walkable.
