What does everyone sit on at home?
I have a 5000¥ Zaisu from Amazon that is so junk after a few hours. It can change positions with is neat but the cushioning goes so flat and feels so hard.
We also have these thick/firm memoryish foam cushions from Nittori (2500¥?) but they flatten out quick as well. I’m not an oversized guy, about 77kg 5’8.
Can anyone suggest me a decent supportive chair or couch for Japanese homes?

I’ve got a nice sofa from Ikea although the cat has pretty thoroughly destroyed the cover and since we’re on cover #2 I’m disinclined to replace it.
Muji beanbags 😃
Herman Miller Embody.
We have a dining table set from Tokyo Interior and a three seater Ikea sofa with the chaise lounge. Love that sofa.
Couch. I can’t sit on floor for long.
Nitori sofa.
Freakin’ love my Yogibo! I have the max and a roll, so it can be used like a couch or a reclining chair. It can be supplemented with more filling, which I do about once a year or so. The cover can also be washed, which is nice!
Absolutely would recommend!
some nice wooden stuff from Hida
We have two reclining lounge chairs sitting side-by-side but facing in opposite directions and two TVs on opposite sides of the room so that we can each watch our own TV shows without subjecting each other to them while still being able to see and talk to each other.
Eilersen Stockholm sofa. Had it for almost 10 years now I think.
I work from home so I have a herman miller
We got a surprisingly nice, big-ish sofa from Nittori.

A 120year old sofa that I brought across from England. Got it refurbished here. 2 of my ancestors died on it.
Went to a recycle store and got a plush leather sofa for 3man.
Best sofa I’ve ever had.
An ergonomic chair is certainly the way to go. You can try Herman Miller or Okamura if you prefer a local alternative.
We use the L shaped sofa from nitori. Had storage space on the bottom and converts to a small bed for the guests. Pretty satisfied.
Got a big Ikea sofa that fits around 6 to 8 people
If you’re just looking for a sofa for 1 or 2 people, get a small one from Nitori or Ikea.
If its just a small one, you’re looking at a price of between 3man – 8man, depending on the model/quality
The one I got was 12man
The day it was decided I would work from home, I knew I would like the same indestructible office chair I had at my workplace. Well, it’s actually not the very same, but it’s the same maker : [a Visconte from Okamura](https://www.okamura.co.jp/product/seating/visconte/).
ikea sofa, but overall ikea sofa are not very comfortable but it matches the color my wife was looking for, the best I found so far was a Tokyo interior but $$$$$ we opted for the ikea one cause we were worried about being able to climb the stairs will a already built sofa.
The IKEA one came disassembled so it was a no concern.
Bought a nice sofa from Outlet X. That may be a local chain though, not sure. My wife uses that,
I sit on an AK Racer chair. Vroom vroom
Desk chair or the floor, mainly.
We have a low, faux-leather sofa in our living room, but it’s really not that comfortable, the material is always cold and it’s quite small. When we’re in there we tend to sit on the (heated) rug next to it instead, or if it’s just me I spin around my mesh desk chair at the other end of the room and sit in that instead.
I can’t really make many suggestions, then, but I will say that there are plenty of furniture stores which have nice western-style sofas. There is a lot of choice especially in the 2 – 2.5 seat size range. Just don’t put them on tatami floors and you’ll be fine.
Ikea L shape sofa. Hard leather.
I have had it for 5+ years slept on the pull out bed for 2 of those years.
It is great, good for guests, and pretty sturdy.
If you feel like one side is getting too much use then reassemble it in the opposite L shape and it is like brand new.
Ikea sofas can be great. Go there and test them out first tho, the more expensive ones tend to be good and come in a variety of softness levels. The cheap ones are usually very hard and not worth the money unless you wanna put it in a waiting room or something
Ekornes Stressless recliner chair. Made in Norway to last a lifetime. Super expensive when bought new, but good second-hand deals can be found Mercari and Yahoo Auctions.
