Takato Castle cherry blossoms, late April

Hey folks.
My wife and i are heading to Japan in late April, and we are planning on seeing some cherry blossoms and probably around the 26th of April, and Takato Castle was high on our list due to the festival there, and also the closer proximity to Tokyo and Osaka, than any northern areas.

What are the likelyhood that we will be in time to see them, and if it’s too late, can anyone recommend another area?

Thanks.

  1. The likelihood of seeing anything, but the last of blossoms is fairly low. While *Kohigan sakura* is buoyant and relatively long-lasting – I would assume peak blossoms arriving by 10-12 April at the latest.

Honest answer is that either visiting Hirosaki, or perhaps enjoying *yaezakura* around Matsushima Bay makes more sense.

  2. If you’re attached to Nagano, it might be worth looking at some other spots with Yaezakura in Nagano. Chikuma River in Obuse for instance is known for late blooming.
