Sponsorship question

Hello everyone. I have been married and lived in Japan for over 10 years now. I got sick in 2019 and have to go to the doctor every month. The wife wants a divorce but didn’t tell me until I had 2 months left on my visa. She said she can’t take the doctor visits and stuff anymore. I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder 1, panic disorder, depression and a sleeping disorder. My visa expires March 30th 2023. My question is can I switch over to a work visa or something even though I haven’t been able to work and have my American dad (step dad. Not Japanese but has a business and money) can he sponsor me? Until I get a new job? I’m looking now but everyone seems worried about my situation. I have a spouse visa now but her and her family won’t renew the visa so I need to explain to companies why I have a spouse visa now but need visa sponsorship. I don’t know what to do.

  1. You can just ask your current job for the visa paperwork after telling them your situation has changed. But it sounds like you don’t have a job? In which case:

If you can find a full time job that will hire you and qualifies for a visa, then yes, you can switch over with no problem. But yes, they will probably ask what status you have now and they might get confused when you request that you will need to apply for a visa with them. How much you want to tell them is up to you.

If your family member has a business and wants to hire you full time and do the paperwork, that should work as well, assuming they can prove to immigration that you are a necessary hire. Not sure how it works with family stuff.

  2. No it’s in Texas. I did online work for him and he paid me through PayPal.This is the first time I’ve been in a situation like this. Before me and my wife were able to sponsor or prove we have money. But since I’ve been unemployed for the past 3 1/2 years or so, I’ve just been doing odd jobs and English teaching here and there. No job security. So I was wondering if my dad could sponsor me or prove that I’m not broke and can pay. My wife really fucked me on this one. Through sickness and in health my ass

  3. You should check with a lawyer who specializes in visa cases. There are ways around this until you switch. If there weren’t easy spouse disposal via deportation would be a much bigger thing than it is.

  4. Well I don’t have extra funds to hire a lawyer. I’m still applying for jobs who will sponsor my visa with the new school year coming up. I just want to know if my dad can sponsor me even though he’s American and his business is in America

  5. I see. Thank you for everyone’s input. It sucks I have to go through this but I have to. I’ll continue to apply for more jobs. I appreciate all the help

  6. One more question. Is it true that I can switch my spouse visa to a work visa and it extends my expiration date by 2 months? Ex: 3/30/2023 to 5/30/2023 and if I can’t find a job by then they will give me a temporary visa so I can figure out how to get out of Japan?

  7. Idk bro sounds like you should go home and get this medical shit taken care of first.

  8. If you father can put a deposit of 500万 (Around USD 38,000), you can open up a branch office (For your fathers company) in Japan & you will be able to apply for a Business manager visa (Initially 4 months).

Also it will cost you another 15-30万 to register the business.

Not sure your father is willing to invest that much.
