Holy crap! I READ MY FIRST SHORT STORY IN JAPANESE! Yes it was one of those stories for learning and yes it was like level 0! But still! And i understood the majority of it through the text!!

So if I can get to a level where i can read light novels, i might actually become very fluent in japanese… At least reading lol. The story i read was pretty engaging and funny for a short story made for learning. I’m really looking forward to getting to a level where i can read visual novels and light novels etc….

So here is the link to the story”: [https://tadoku.org/japanese/book/8777/#bd-look-inside](https://tadoku.org/japanese/book/8777/#bd-look-inside)

And this is what i got from it. Hopefully it’s right lol.

>!She is called Mayu!<

>!She likes to draw?!<

>!She likes romantic shoju manga!<

>!She wishes for a boyfriend!<

>!She has no boyfriend!<

>!She decides to draw her ideal boyfriend? !<

>!Her boyfriend is tall!<

>!Her boyfriend is cool!<

>!”HIM???”!<

>!The drawing comes to life and says “I’m your boyfriend”!<

>!They go on a date !<

>!They read manga together!<

>!“NOOOOO” she screams after pouring water on her boyfriend!<

>!“My boyfriend!” she screams! !<

>!“one more time” she draws another ideal boyfriend. !<

  1. Yeah that’s pretty much how the story went lol keep it up! It always feels good to be able to read something!

    >!The only thing is that だれ means who, not “him.” かれ is him. !<

  2. Good job, now just keep going:

    Step 2. Learn Words

    Step 3. Learn Grammar

Step 4. Try and use level appropriate media

    Step 5. Repeat steps 2, 3 and 4.

Repeat that loop and you’ll be good.

  3. Some of the stories in those grades readers are really great! I’m able ro read the level 2 ones now, but I don’t take enough time to do it…

  4. >!Oh, I know! I’ll draw myself a boyfriend!!<

Good thing breaking through stereotypes and showing us that girls can be crazy weebs too.

  5. Thanks for the link OP! I’m pretty early in kanji learning and also managed to read the whole thing, felt pretty good!

  6. Congratulations!! Doesn’t matter how small it seems, reading your first story and knowing it all is a fantastic feeling. Hopefully this motivates you to keep learning even more!!

  7. I’m something of a beginner too and understood all of that, which felt great. Thanks for the link and well done!
