Here’s another of my favorite matches featuring the legend retiring in Tokyo Dome come February 21.
In this one, the newly bald “Shining Wizard” Muto takes on Blue Justice Yuji Nagata in the finals of the 2001 G1 climax tournament.
There are some truly excellent technical exchanges between the two that leads up to a great finish with the hot crowd along for the ride.
Muto also gets a lot of flak for not putting over opponents (deservedly so in later years), but this match elevated Nagata to the main event scene of NJPW.
