Famous potter, probably Okinawa [OC], can anybody identify?

Taken in 2000, somewhere in Kyushu. He’s only about 4′ 8″ tall. Took this photo with his permission, also have some of him with a (deceased) family member and would like to identify him.

I made a video about vegan restaurants in Tokyo because I found more and more of them and I know it can be difficult for vegetarians/vegans in Japan. I thought this might help people coming to Japan, enjoying life in Tokyo more. :)
