A question regarding PR

If you have permanent resident status and you marry another foreigner here, will that foreigner then be allowed to get a marriage visa?

I know foreigners that marry Japanese nationals can get a marriage visa and then they can apply for a PR after a certain time frame. But, does it work for two foreigners if one of the foreigners has a PR.

Does anyone have any insight into this particular situation?

I have a PR, but my significant other doesn’t have / isn’t close to being able to apply for PR. I am curious if there is a marriage loop hole.

  1. Thanks for the links and the information. I should have looked this up before posting here. Even still, I appreciate all the help.

  2. It’s not necessarily a loophole but just your normal usual rule in general (not only Japan). As Bulldog has mentioned its a spouse of PR visa status for your SO.

You need to prepare quite a long list of documents to prove your relationship however, be prepared. Oh I’m talking about those text messages/pictures of you and your SO before you get to marry her etc.

Source: I myself is a PR holder who marries non Japanese.

Edit: in my case it was a foreigner outside Japan. In your case, I think should be somewhat similar process wise but I have a friend whose wife (non Japanese, already in Japan) kept her visa status after marriage.

  3. Don’t get a PR. Else you are down for very bad inheritance taxes worldwide by Japan.
