For a trip I have planned I’ve been attempting to make reservations on Tabelog. I got an account, converted my name to hiragana (after multiple attempts/them denying it), but it’s not allowing me to book without a Japanese phone number. I’ve seen multiple posts on here about reservations on Tabelog but nothing discussing the need for a Japanese number.
What’s the best way to circumvent this?
My friend said he used the restaurants number for each booking then put his American phone number in the special requests text box below. That seems a little sketchy to me and I’d worry they’d cancel because of it but does this sound okay?
Let me know, I’d really appreciate it. Can’t wait to have all the restaurants I want to try booked!

Personally never tried using the tablelog web. Seemed way too cluttery. I used to frequent Omakase or tableall. Omakase has been terrible ever since japan opened up again , close to impossible to reserve any popular restaurants. Their website just dosent allow you to make the reservation unlike previous times. Tableall does not see that much customer traffic and I have better luck there but they do not cover most of the more popular restaurants in japan. The last chance is to get your hotel concierge to help you but then again I’ve had not much success. The feedback was that they did try to make the phone reservations however the restaurants were full.
Although most of the restaurants that I tried to book were like really ranked highly in tablelog with ratings of 3.8 and above
I bought myself a sim with a cellphone number (Mobal) and used it once for a Tabelog reservation.
I only did Tablecheck and it is user friendly you could do with a breeze on my own. Tabelog is too cluttered that I sought help with my hotel concierge for the restaurant reservation.
You can purchase a phone number on Skype and use it depending on where you live.
