I’m pretty sure for the 5g you have to buy the router outright, they don’t rent it to you like the 4g. I looked at it a while ago so I’m not entirely sure. I think it was maybe 20,000Â¥
If you have the option to switch provider, I think you should try. Softbank is quite expensive. I think there are more options from Au and other providers.
Regarding current costs of Softbank Air 5, I currently pay 5368 Jpy/month (good to mention my plan is mobile + softbank air). I cannot recall if there was any costs for upgrade, as It was quite a while ago, either way I had upgrade it from Air 3. It can be very slow sometimes (rainy/cloudy days), but I managed to solve the speed problem using a pringles can and aluminum foil (you can find tutorials on youtube).
