I personally stayed in Chanya 10 years ago (am I old? I’m old) but looks like they’re still around and doing business. The whole area has a mix of cottages that you rent. They’re very simple (basically just room + bathroom) but at least chanya came with dinner (or you could reserve without dinner) down the street. It’s about a 5 minute walk to the beach, which wasn’t the greatest sandy beach but it was very secluded and perfect for snorkeling.

There are other beaches that are more “traditional” sandy beaches on the north side of the peninsula which is just a very short drive away. It, and the aquarium, are pretty far from the city proper so it’s not the best option if you are trying to cram in a lot of stuff. But, if you have a large group, it brings the cost/person down a lot and is a really nice place to just relax.

As always, be careful when snorkeling because currents can be dangerous.
