Any recommendations on more things to do or to go? I’d like to see more trails, countrysides, quiet neighborhoods or any outdoor museums. I think there’s an indoor underground museum that shows off the Irrigation System in Saitama? For trails, nothing too straining but enjoyable and nice.

The hope is to avoid getting ab expensive railpass in general.

  1. Tuesday seems a little all over the place. do some more research on where these places are relative to eachother and what you want to do there and split up your Tokyo days at the end of your trip or just cut some fat on that day since you’re more interested in places outside of the big-city feel.

for Friday Nintendo World do you mean USJ? USJ could take a whole day and as of right now you have to get a timed entry for Nintendo World, so unless that changes you’ll have a hard time just walking in on the morning of.

Sunday you could do whatever you don’t get to do on Friday in Osaka or go to the aquarium.

You should really plan some more time for Kyoto! you can explore some quieter streets there and maybe go to Uji or something.

  2. >(Tuesday): Tokyo Exploration -Kimono Rental? (Still under discussion) -Akihabara -Nanako Boardwalk -Shinjuku -Harajuku -Shimokitazawa

Way too much stuff and kind of all over the place. Also – Nakano Broadway, not Nanako Boardwalk.

    >(Wednesday) Kamakura/Yokohama Day: Kamakura (Morning) Enoshima (Afternoon if we have time) Yokohama -Chinatown -Red Brick Warehouse -Cup Noodle (If we have time)

Again, too much. Kamakura by itself is a full day trip. You could squeeze Enoshima in there if you do Kamakura early. You’re trying to squeeze essentially 3 day trips into a single day trip. It doesn’t make much sense to me.

    >(Monday) Tokyo Return (Morning) -Check into AirBnB
    Ueno Park
    Ghibli Museum

These 2 places are an hour away from each other by train. Meanwhile, Inokashira Park is right next to Ghibli Museum. Check out Kichijoji, as well, which is one of the more desirable neighborhoods in Tokyo. Lots of great shops, restaurants, cafes, etc.

  3. Tokyo is massive so your Tuesday seems a bit rushed. I’d say one of those neighborhoods is a solid afternoon of exploration. Mornings might be a bit quiet (especially Takeshita st/Harajuku station). Also Harajuku is better on weekends as you’ll have more people and more people dressing up.

I think overall it looks very rushed to me (then again I’m a slow travel kind of person who visits places multiple times and stays for like 4-5 days in a smaller cities and 2 weeks for larger cities).

Also why fly to Osaka? Train to Kyoto is faster and a nicer place to stay in the evenings IMO. I like going to Gion in the evening for Geiko/Maiko spotting.

Save your Mount Fuji day to combine with your train ride on the way south to Kyoto. Be prepared to be disappointed in though. I’ve done the train ride several times and Mt. Fuji was hidden in the clouds. Hope you can catch a glimpse but I’ve yet to see it haha.

Also there are sometimes good events along the river in Kyoto. Kyoto has a smaller town feel to it too. We like staying in the main shopping area near the Daimaru and other department stores. Plenty of things to see, do, and eat and hotels are cheap. Plus it’s near the subways and buses.

Osaka is a short train ride away from Kyoto and the castle + Dotonbori are a solid day out. Can toss in a visit to Nara in the morning to visit the dear and big temple close to the train station. It’s a long day but can be done. The Nara deer are a hoot and highly recommend.

Also word of advice: build in a rest day or at least rest morning or something every 4-5 days or whenever switching cities. It helps to just have a morning to go to a local breakfast or coffee joint and relax. This is especially true of Tokyo since it’s massive and sensory overload. Sometime you just need a morning to chill out at a park with some tea and a book to recharge so you’re not exhausted when you get home. You’ll appreciate those times to consolidate your thoughts and process the experiences of the past few days.

  4. The first Tuesday is a bit all over the place and easily 2+ days. Move Nakano broadway to dhte day you go to Ghibli museum

The Wednesday with Kamakura is easily 2 days.
