Should I get Docomo’s credit card or other alternative?

Started living here in Japan from last month. Don’t know much about credit card/bonus thing.

Back in my country I had a credit card from Bank. But here it seems I’m not qualified to get one from the Bank.

Docomo says they can give me a credit card that connects to my Bank account.
Each purchase made by Docomo’s credit card I get points.

What is the difference between Bank’s credit card and Docomo’s credit card?

Note: Currently using Docomo’s ahamo plan on my phone.

  1. There’s no difference. I use D-Card Gold personally because I have Docomo phones, so 10% cash back everything month is great, plus 2% on most purchases* because of my “rank” with Docomo after 15 years.

  2. I have an SMBC and they have English support in their branches (at least the one near me). My friends got Rakuten and they said you get 8k points that you can use to buy stuff. Also, I don’t know if they still have the rule but when I first came here, I couldn’t get a credit card because they had a rule that I had to be stay here for 6 months first.

  3. Personally I’d get a JAL or ANA credit card so points go towards air miles. JAL is part of “One World” airline network and ANA is part of “Star Alliance”, so see which international airlines you are most likely to use most often to get home/travel and choose the card which matches.
