How much is tech internship?

Inquisitive minds want to know, how well are tech internships paid in Japan?

Can someone give a few examples?

P.S. I’m too old for one, personally, yet I’d like to know.

  1. The ones I’ve seen that are paid, about the same as a postdoc stipend or phd scholarship, between 100,000 to 140,000 a month.

  2. The best paid internship I found when I was aggressively job searching was this one: 950 yen an hour.

    The average internship was unpaid.

  3. Usually they’re not paid. They may provide housing, meals, and transportation money during your internship. But it’ll cover the bare minimum.

I applied to a job posting and went through an interview process, and only after being “accepted” was I told it was an unpaid internship. I had an apartment and everything, so I basically couldn’t use most of the stuff they offered as “compensation” for the internship.

  4. Depends there are unpaid types with some kind of benefit, some are paid around minimum wage. I know someone interning at a gaishikei for like 3000-4000 an hour though. Also know someone getting paid 2500 an hour at a nikkei company.

  5. There is no one-size-fits-all answer, as the salary for tech internships in Japan can vary significantly depending on the company and position. I’ve worked for domestic and international companies in Tokyo, paying between 2000 yen/hour and 3000 yen/hour.

  6. People here are so lucky. When I was searching for internships everything was free labor. Had to work 5 hours a day to fix broken code while I was starving.

  7. Depends on the field too, for example software development and AI internships pay more than engineering internships.

The normal range should be 1500-2000 yen/hour.
Highest I’ve seen was by PFNetworks @ 2500yen/hour
